Katrina Update, Thursday, Sept. 1

Dear 8-O Lions and Friends,

Lousiana has been hit with the worst disaster in the history of the United States. Now is the time for the Lions of 8-O to live up to our motto "WE SERVE".

I expect to receive a check tomorrow for $10,000 from Lions Club International Foundation. This LCIF Emergency Grant is going to be used to buy some necessities for members in shelters in the Lafayette/Opelousas area. Since we have estimated that there are 10,000 people in shelters in this area, we will only scratch the surface. I have heard from several international directors and have been assured more money is on the way. Those Melvin Jones Fellowships were a good investment.

***I have received an urgent request from Lion Dinah Landry for 125 blankets and pillows needed in Cameron Parish. Lion Dinah has been quite busy with relief as a Lion and in her day job with the Council on Aging.***

If you wish to contribute goods to be used at shelters, please contact your local shelter to find out what is needed or contact me. I will have information on what to do if you wish to make a cash donation within the next 24 hours.

Please pass this infomation on to ALL LIONS in your clubs and please contact me if you need anything. Also please pray.
